Karen, do you have a switch on the wall next to the light switch that doesn't control anything? Do you remember which white wire you removed when you disconnected the light? If you don't have a switch that's not controlling anything and you remember which wire you disconnected, wire it as Steve suggested. I would suspect that you're wired where you can operate the fan and light separately, I can't think of any other reason why you would have two grounds and an extra white wire in the ceiling fixture.
