It looks kinda like wood shingles but it is very hard. Its not as thick as wood. It doesn't crack it breaks. I am going to have it removed (rather expensive) from the house I bought simply because you can't drive a nail into it without breaking it. When it is broken that allows it to become airborn and that is the problem...
