I had a similar situation, wondering how to cover the Dow Styrofoam insulation on the basement walls where they were exposed. I ended up using that galvanized expanded metal lath tacked to the styrofoam and then covered with a "skim" coat of portland cement "plaster". The results were excellent. Today there are still no cracks, peeling, etc.. Good luck!
