I had the same thing happen to me after buying a maple end table at a transient flea market. After carrying it to the car, I noticed oil stains on my hands and favorite T shirt. I never did get that T shirt clean. Anyway, I think this is a trick that these vendors use to make the furniture look better for sale. The problem is, the oil won't soak through the finish that is already there. What I did was to wipe the table down with paper towling until it came out clean. I suppose using a little mineral spirits would also help, but it may also clean the stain out of the nicks you do want covered. Good luck with your find! Dodgeman
