I've run into this myself and, while it is pretty Mickey Mouse, this solution worked for me.
I took a couple of feet of speaker wire and twisted it onto the end of the existing
pigtail antenna. I tied it into a loop so that it didn't hang down too far. This worked
for years on a Stanley opener.
