You can disconnect the belt/pully as Steve: suggests, and see if the sound persists. If the noise persists, I'm sure you'll have a better idea of where to find it. If it doesn't, then maybe something is scraping/rubbing on the drum as it spins, again as Steve: suggests. In additions, look for fresh rub marks or 'scratches' on the drum.
