Alex, We also installed light oak kitchen cabinets in a remodeling project last year. We chose ceramic tile for the floor partially because of the damage that the claws of our large pet dog would do to hardwood. However we are more impressed by the tile each day. Besides the elegant look that your wife is attracted to, it is by far the lowest maintenance floor that we have ever lived with. An occasional brooming or quick vacuuming is all that it takes. The hard surface seems to resist dirt more than even sheet vinyl. And with a heated basement below, it stays at room temperature and doesn't seem cold. In fact, the better half has been begging me to have the ceramic tile installed in a adjacent 15 by 25 recreation room instead of the carpet which I had planned. The banker and I are negotiating. Good luck with your choice. BobB
