Maintaining Wells in cold regions

I am thinking of sinking a deep well for domestic water supply to my vacation house. The property is in Maine and I am concerned about how you keep the well
freeze protected, how you treat the presssure tank, do you put filters on the supply for iron, or other hard water problems ?
I need education on the way its done up North.

Any help or discussion is welcome.
