NORMALLY occurs in s high stress point and the crack will not become an expansion joint if you will. Which sometimes means it will expand and contract with the seasons.
What I would do is to apply some silicon/latex white caulking in the crack and paint over it. Make sure again, that the caulk is paintable. This will allow for the movement and it will give with that movement.
