Hi, I am having a terrible time locating a contracter to install a header beam for a kitchen remodel! I've almost given up, and think maybe my husband and I will have to do this job ourselves. The area we will be spanning is approximately 10' across (the present opening is about 6 feet and we want to expand it to open a pantry area onto the rest of the kitchen). I am told it is a load-bearing wall, and all that is above is an attic (not a living space). Four contractors have come out, all say it's do-able, all say they get me an estimate, and none have come through! can anyone advise us on this-- we are so FRUSTRATED!!
