JR!, the sprays typically have a shooting range of 12-20 feet, and the cans that I've read state to spray the nest at night (when the little pests are all resting in the hive). I've used these products in the past, and they work as stated. Simply dowse (sp?) the hive/nest late in the evening once it cools down and is a little dark, run just in case a couple of them get upset. But basically with their wings wet from the spray plus the insecticide's effect, they won't bother you.
