drywall repairs Posted by Lori Arnold on August 23rd, 2001 08:41 AM
I have read many books on the subject of drywallin, however, I still can't find the answer to a drywall question I am dealing with in my newly purchased home. The previous owner renovated the house himself and did the worst drywall installation, taping, sanding - everything. It torments me everyday to look at the sad walls. I have tape that I could probably just pull off the wall and corner beads are plainly evident everywhere (and are capable of scratching you). My resolution to this is to just re-tape, re-sand (I don't think the original was ever sanded anyway) and re-paint the mistakes. One problem, though, the interior has been painted many times. If I remove the tape, secure the loose drywall to the studs and re-tape, will the joint compound stick to the paint? If so, I'm thrilled, but if not, somebody please advise?
