Paint vs. stain

I am building a new house with Cedar siding.

I am planning to do two coats but was wondering
whether stain or paint is better (we are going with
white so two coats are needed).

Does a non-porous stain peel the way that paint does
when the house gets older?? What are the advatnages
and disadvantages of either??
