Since you are in southern oregon it sounds as if you may have two problems, clay soil and possiable earthquake damage, I live in the puget sound area and we have had quite a bit of quake damage much like you mention, you can try some stop gap measures like I mentioned before or put a marker on the gaps ie, put masking tape over the crack and cut it at the crack. Then mark a line on it. this way you can see if it is still moving away or down. If it dosent move any more over the next few months, you have gotten off lucky, and can jack up and shim the room. If it keeps moving, then you have to find out why. Was the addition built on fill? Is the foundation to shallow(freeze damage)? Is it on a hill that is moving?
