split foyer staircase

I have a split level/split foyer home. On the 2nd level of stairs (basement level) there is a 4x5 (?) space that is not enclosed. It is an empty nook. Any ideas on how to utilize this space. Usually, it is enclosed to be used as a closet space, but I don't think in can be enclosed because of lack of wall area.

Any suggestions or info would be helpful!
