This is not based on any experience, just a thought.
Have you thought about using some of those eletrical "cables" that people put on their roofs just above the gutter line to keep the snow melting and from accumulating on the roof. This link will give you an idea of what I am talking about. http://www.letcoproducts.com/prod07.htm
