HVAC and Formula's?? Posted by Arnie on October 14th, 2001 02:35 PM
Hello, Is there any type of simple formula that can be used to approximate how many BTU's per square foot it would take to heat up a home using a gas furnace?? And/or the BTU's for a central a/c system?? I've gotten 4 bids for my house and have been given 3 different numbers...starting with 60,000 BTU's & 2 ton a/c unit...up to 100,000 BTU's & 3 ton unit. I'm going to call them all back tomorrow and was just looking for some information so I can sound a bit more educated. I plan on converting from an electric heat pump to gas and the house is a rancher.... square footage about 2000 with 800 of it in the basement where there is a gas unvented fireplace on the wall that I plan on using. The house is in New Jersey if that makes any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
