One other note here.

Make sure that the switch for the Fan is a Ceiling fan
Rheostat and not a LIGHT DIMMER SWITCH.

A light dimer switch on a ceiling fan will cause
hot wires, fires, and damaged ceilinng fans.

The circuit has to match the power load of the fan.
This is a common problem that many folks
don't realize.

Your local home depot has switches rated for ceiling
fans.
