was to soak petroleum jelly into a slice of bread and leave it sitting on the stain for a while. The article mentions for a few days.
This will only work if the surface is not sealed like with polyurethane or something that will prohibit the jelly from reaching the actual wood.
give it a try, it won't hurt.
