Jenny, given that this is a new house ,,,seems like the builder should have given you some GFCI, Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt protected outlets outside near your front door and back door..! If not then you will need to use an exterior use approved extension cord to plug into a GFCI protected outlet that should be in your Garage, or somewhere closer inside your house. If your spouse is handy he can try and run you one thru the attic out thru a soffit vent (i.e. the underside of the roof overhang) or take a drill and create an opening large enough for an extension plug to get thru to hook your lights up to. Post back with more details on whether or not you can use any of the above options. hope this helps.
