Power Vent Posted by Harold Kestenholz - Hydronic Network on December 4th, 2001 01:18 PM In reply to Replace Chimney or Power Vent by susan on December 4th, 2001 12:56 PM [Go to top of thread]
A power vent creates a steady and known draft for an appliance. It does not matter whether the appliance is highly efficient or low efficiency to a power vent. However, the type of appliance attached to a brick chimney is very important. A high efficiency appliance will wet down the inside of a mortar chimney and slowly destroy it. As the EPA and DOE are always pressing for more efficiency, expect all future appliances to be direct vented. http://www.tjernlund.com/oilsidewall.html http://www.tjernlund.com/gassidewall.htm http://www.fieldcontrols.com/swg.html
