This is really a little bit too difficult to visualize without being on site. Also, it is not usually safe to try to get structural advise from anyone who has not personally inspected the structure. What you are proposing sound like a pretty good sized project that may involve some major re-structuring. You should have a pro look at it and you probably need a permit. good luck
