Filling siding face nail holes Posted by Bruce M on July 7th, 1998 11:13 PM In reply to Surface nailing on Cedar siding putty recommendations by brian Peppel on July 7th, 1998 09:10 AM [Go to top of thread]
Hi Brian Personally, I've had terrible luck filling exposed nail head indentations on clabbord siding. I suppose it will depend on what part of the country you live in and what filling agent you use, but eventually, with the movement of the siding and age of the compound, it will crack and fall out. I usually advise people who must face nail to use 4340 stainless nails with casing heads. They don't ever seem to rust and although they are visible, if you're carefull when installing them so they line up, the final appearance isn't that bad.
Just my simple view best Bruce M
