You indicated that you had only 3 "mushroom" vents for the entire house. (Plus the gable vent) I would say that you are under-vented. I would go with the ridge vent to get enough air flow. Sure, there may be conditions that happen once in a while that may cause condensation on the underside of the roofing, but they would be rare, and you need to have enough venting to dry that attic out. If this were my house, I would kill the mold with a weak solution of bleach water, and add the venting. Good Luck! Dodgeman
