Shiela Paint thinner is a weak solvent. Varnish, like urethane, drys and cures by undergoing a chemical reaction that makes in non-reactive to most things...unlike laquer and shellac, which will always dissolve in their solvents. So to answer your question, paint thinner should have no noticable affect on your finish, as long as you follow my guidelines and are careful not to scratch the floor with your stiff blade putty knife.
