It may be helpful in a wet area like the bathroom - especially if you have wide grout joints. (unsanded sounds like you have narrow joints though.)
It also helps keep the grout from getting stained, although I think it's best just to use grey grout and let it stain.
I've done some bathrooms with it and some without - I'd recommend it in a shower stall & call it optional on floors and walls.
