Ceiling Fan install confusion Posted by Shankar on March 25th, 2002 03:09 PM
Hello, I line in Ann Arbor. I'm trying to install aceiling Fan Made by Hunter. It's remote controlled. The ceiling had a 3 bulb fixture which is now replace by the fan. I have installed fans before and 2 in this house itlself. In this particular room, the fan/light does not work. I have checked all connections and they have been made according to the instructions given. The remote codes are identical and the remote has a new battery. The only question is the wires in the ceiling box. I have 4 wires. 1 Black ( I connected this to the black in the remote reciever) 1 White (I connected it to the white in the reciever). There's a bare copper ground wire. The fan had a green ground that was connected to the green in the remote reciever. What do I do with the red? Why is it there? Is that the live wire instead of the black? I wonder if this a wiring for fan and light controls to be separate? If yes, how can I make it work with a remote? Thanks for the help.
