I've had good luck with a scotch pad - one of those non-scratching scouring pads thats safe to use on teflon and other non-stick pans. The varnish should have kept the paint from bonding.
For the big drips and runs, try to gently lift off with something like a hard plastic spatula. Be careful so you don't scratch or gouge the woodwork.
