I bought an older home and I have discovered that I need to level the front porch and also one of the main support beams in the basement was notched out to make more head room going down the basement stairs. I know that I have to jack them up but I want to know exactly how to in order to prevent damaging anything. Also is there a way to reconfigure my basement stairs, because now you can not take any thing bigger than a single bed down them. The reason I ask is that my daughter and her family are moving in with and want to fix up the basement area to live in until they can save for and find a bigger home. I would appreciate your help, I watch most of your programs and when I saw your web site I thought who better to ask than Bob Vila?
