I personally do not think that a circa 1972 home could be too air tight. A much newer home surely could be so. The situation with the back door closing when the front door closes is very common in any home when the windows are all down and closed. This is not a barometer at all.
I think that you would realize a nice and cozy interior air conditioning saving with the tyvek.
