Floor Buffer

I am in my second day of refinishing my hardwood floor and have moved onto the floor buffer. From everything we have seen on TV and video, we were of the understanding that we should be using a sanding screen for buffing in between the coats of poly but when we picked up the buffer, we were given some foamy, somewhat abrasive pads. Are these meant for sanding (buffing) in between? Should we ask for sanding screens instead? Thanks,
