You may want to check into the possibility of carpenter ants. They're quite common in certain areas of the country. They can be a little tricky to find since they live in the wall cavity and can move their nest if disturbed. Ant spray won't take care of the problem, it will only kill the scavengers coming in your house. Anyhow, may be worth considering & looking into.
