sounds like you have two three way switches so that either one can turn on or off

on each end of the room IF so then all you have is one switch for contolling both fan and light you will have to add wiring and a switch or switches to provide three way independent control of your light or just use your light pull chain switch . let us know is the two switches are three way intended to give you light fixture on/off control from both locations.
