I hate plastics Posted by TMH on August 28th, 2002 01:52 AM In reply to Decking - Composit or Wood? by Jim Rolelr on August 27th, 2002 09:38 AM [Go to top of thread]
Wood- looks good, properly installed and maintained
it can actually last indefinitely. Easily maintained-
protectants can be easily applied with a bug sprayer,
don't go cheap on the protectant, and wood quality
and type are important factors.
Concrete- will last exceptional and also low maintenance,
you should also apply a sealer, many companies doing
imprinted and colored concrete, looks exceptional.
Masonry- Brick, stone, etc. Best looking of all. Most
expensive to install. But actually reasonable $ and not
that difficult for the DIY novice.
Vinyls/Synthetics/Plastics- Looks cheap, I wouldn't use them on my own
home, but if the customer demands it and pays me, I'll
install it. Does that make me cheap?
I've seen many types, crack, warp, dis-color and
generally fail.
But I must say I've seen just as many wood deck failures
due to improper construction.
These are only my opinions. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
