We arebuying a house that has similar problems. Had the city building inspector out to hear his opinion and he said the metal bars will work-your walls will not go anywhere-you're safe in that respect. He did say if you want to guarantee waterproof results, it's better to completely rebuild the walls and add exterior sump gravel system. However, my contractor said there are waterproofing companies that will gaurantee a waterproof basement by installing an interior sump pump system after the metal beams are installed. I'm going to try this route since it is about 1/3 the cost of total replacement.
