I have a leak into the rim plates of the basement. The source of the leak appears to be the vinyl strip attaching to the wall board, which is part of the chimney soffet. Water is entering the soffet somewhere and making its way to the overhang joists of the chimney.The siding channels direct any water to the attaching channels, which empties onto the wall board attached to the rim. Can I redirect the water to go outside, or do I need to attach an additional flashing around the wallboard to stop water penetration?
