The hairline cracks will eventually grow and multiply. But no one can predict how long eventually will take. I don't know of anything that will permanently repair cracked ceramics. There are plenty of old decorative fired clay pieces that have hairline cracks and have been around for years, but they have not been continually subject to water, etc. Under the tank lid will be some numbers and a code date. Take these to your local plumbing supply house and see if they can get you a replacement or one that will fit. Henry
