Removal of a ceramic tile floor

Dear Mr.Vila,
I have a tile floor put down by a "professional." The tile has cracked and is ugly, like steve and norman. The installer laid the floor on 1/4" laun plywood. Ihe room is the kitchen.
The house was built around 1947 in the style of
Leviton NY. I want to remove the tiles and replace with wood. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
