bjam,this is a matter of opinion,and I state this is my opinion.Todays building uses a wide range of material for sub floor.OSB(T and G)fir ply(Tand G).One project I worked on used 1" 1/8 T and G ply(7 ply).This 1" 1/8 is the best I have used,next to 1x12 pine.It all boils down to how it is nailed(smooth nails or ringshank with glue),if the nails hit their mark,how much weather it will have to take.I would not use CDX,and I would not use any thing less than 3/4 thick.Luck
