A friend of mine just put a roof on her kennel out of heavy green plastic sheeting. The kind like you would see on a greenhouse. If you put it on with about a 2 to 3 inch slant and put bracing under it out of wood it will hold up under snow and rain. It's not terribly expensive just make sure you anchor it or first big wind and it will blow away.... Good Luck.
