We just purchased our first home which has a metal entry door minus a deadbolt. I travel so my wife insists on that added security beyond the standard keyed lock.
The door is in decent shape although it could use a fresh coat of paint. A transom above the door would make it very expensive to replace as a unit. A blank door might be an option but I've heard horror stories about installation.
My question is, can a metal door be drilled to accomodate a deadbolt? I'm fairly handy with minor projects but would hate to get myself into a situation where I had to replace the door because I muffed it. I am willing to pay a pro to do the job if it is possible.
Can anyone offer advise as to if drilling is an option and if so what type of pro would be appropriate to contact?
