Be effective. In cold weather, you want the ventilation to be through the outside pane of glass. The trick will be to drill holes in the glass without breaking it. If the window is safety glass, forget it, it can't be done. But I suspect your standard window is ordinary glass.
Be sure to wear all the safety protection you can. Goggles, long sleeve coat or heavy shirt, etc.
