You didnt say if you had a crawl space, but if you do then a little skunk can get in. Ive seen dead skunks get in when theres noway how??? But they can, they then get into the insulation thats in the floor and die from lack of air. If you thinks that might be then take a stick and poke around the insulation and try to feel for something that you might think shouldnt be their.
