You can remove the glue using a heat-gun (low setting)and a stiff putty knife.........
Also chemical PEEL-AWAY #?....(can't remember which 'flavor' for clear finish wood).....will remove it also.....
Then sand.........Sanding that stuff is awful....and you're still left scraping the edges......and SOME of it has asbestos it it making it a sanding dust hazard......doug
