finishing hard wood floors

we just had a bid for someone to refinish are floors. the wood is yellow pine and they previous owners put brown war paint on it. we had a bid of $650.00 the room is 15 x 15. now my husband thinks that yellow pine will not hold up and we will have to refinish it again in one year. the room is a dinning room we just need to cut across the room to get to the kitchen and play room so it is used as a threw way. If you can help me in anyway let me know. thankyou dottie
