I have had 2 houses where tile was installed over wood flooring, plus an adjoining room .My tile was not 'thin set' but was bedded out in sand first, then grouted. This made a cushio, if you wil. My tile was Mexican Saltillo, unglazed tile and has done beautifully for 20 years.
