My mother painted the countertops in one of her spare bathrooms last year. The paint is holding up beautifully despite the water exposure. Remember that they make many varieties of paint now. You can even buy paint that's made specifically for porcelin tubs. (Talk about getting wet!) Applying sufficient coats of a hard polyeurathane is key. My husband and I are about to move into a new house and don't want to replace the countertops right away ($$). I am going to copy my mother's technique in both bathrooms and may do the kitchen as well.
