I am considering replacing a 13' span of studs on an exterior gable wall, actually i want to recess it to achieve a flush header. The 13' is not the entire length or the wall so there will be some remaining studs on both sides. Also there is only a crawl space attic above. Would a paralam be a good choice for that distance? Also, what is the typical width of a paralam? I may only have another inch of space more than the 2X4 top sill plate is currently occupying.
