Finishing a basement

I'm slowly doing my research into finishing my basement. First off my basement is appox. 1260sq ft., I plan to make the majority of this living space. My furnace does provide heat to the basement, however it is still very chilly sometimes, I would like to have some input on insulating (R-value/type) the walls and ceiling of the basement. I intend on putting a ventless gas fireplace in also. I have never framed a basement before let alone a house but would like some input on materials. I initially planned on using 2X4's and attaching them to the floor joists. Any thoughts/knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
