Because a broken water heater's flood caused a lot of cupping, our insurance company suggested refinishing the floor. Their contractor said there would be future problems from the knot holes. He said that refinished floors wouldn't have a furniture grade smoothness, and because of the expansion/contraction from temperatures and humidity, we would have cracks and the knotholes could be forced out, leaving holes. He suggests replacing the floor with pre-finished hardwood flooring. We like our floor & prefer to refinish if the holes and knothold problem can be surmounted. What is your opinion? Thanks!
